How We Work

Each project begins with a series of conversations

Each project begins with a series of conversations.

These conversations might be centered on a specific issue or a broader topic. During these conversations, we work together to develop a deeper understanding of the issue at hand, as well as any constraints and prior analysis that has already been undertaken. Our goal during this phase is to develop an outline of analyses which are likely to illuminate the topic further.

collection and preparation of data for analysis

The next phase of each project starts with the collection and preparation of data for analysis.

Often our clients provide some data, to which we add relevant publicly available data. A good dataset is the foundation of any good analysis and we pay careful attention to ensuring that we understand the data we utilize before undertaking analyses. The quality, breadth and applicability of the available data informs the types of analyses we undertake. Because every dataset and analysis has its benefits and limitations, our goal is to explore each hypothesis or issue from multiple directions using multiple analyses and datasets if possible.

open communication with clients

Our goal throughout the project is to maintain open communication with clients.

On each project, we work with our clients to find the optimal cadence and depth for interim meetings. We find that the best outcomes come from conversations in which we discuss preliminary results and collect client observations and reactions. These discussions present opportunities to refine, expand and/or add to the initial outline.

presentation of our insights and opinions

Each project ends with a presentation of our insights and opinions.

Our presentation can include an oral discussion, a written report, and/or testimony in court. Throughout a project, and particularly in this phase, our goal is for our clients to fully understand the intuition behind our insights as well as the methods that were used and our basis for choosing those methods.
